On behalf of the founding Magento Association Task Force, we are proud to report that we completed our 2018 mission. As you might recall, last year we set out on a community listening tour with the specific aim of creating an independent, nonprofit trade association to continue encouraging, nurturing and enabling what many of us are already doing across the Magento community—educating, networking, and advocating.
This iterative process took time, but it best ensured that we actively listened to our globally diverse ecosystem spanning all audiences and stakeholders. Informed by those community discussions, we produced a 3-year guiding plan and governing bylaws. We also reviewed 100+ applicants and ultimately selected 8 community members to sit on the inaugural Board of Directors.
Please join me in thanking the Task Force for their groundbreaking work and welcoming the inaugural Magento Association Board of Directors:
We are proud and humbled to have so many dedicated members across the Magento ecosystem. This inaugural Board truly exemplifies the Magento community and the culture of what the Magento Association will be. This board is a diverse, broadly-distributed group representing agencies, technology providers, merchants, and well-known community champions. I will serve as the Magento representative on the board, with Brittany Mosquera, our Head of Event Marketing, serving as a liaison. Josh Berman from SmithBucklin, who has been instrumental in facilitating this entire process, will serve as Executive Director.
Just under a year since announcing its creation, we hand over the Magento Association to a talented, capable and globally representative Board, who will quickly come up to speed and lead us forward, governed by our charter documents. Equally important for a thriving user community like the Magento Association is volunteer leadership beyond the Board. Consider this the first Association ask and bookmark and follow activity on MagentoAssociation.org. And, be on the lookout for opportunities to step up and get involved as volunteer leaders.
Although the Board is an important steering body for any association, its functioning and impact rely heavily on members contributing and manning the many committees needed to work towards our collective vision. We, therefore, invite everyone in the community to sign up for the Association mailing list so we can keep you up to date with important news and inform you when we start forming committees that align to your interests, experience, and talents.
