As you know, on 25 May of this year the new text on personal data protection will come into effect.
You can read our article about it here :
This text reinforces people’s rights and imposes a new accountability logic on entities involved by requiring them to take the necessary, appropriate measures to ensure a suitable level of security when processing personal data.
What is PrestaShop doing to help its users comply with the regulation’s requirements?
In addition to the work being done by PrestaShop to ensure our own compliance, we are currently developing new features that will be available for versions 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7 of our software and will help our users comply with the regulation’s requirements.
These new features will allow you, PrestaShop solution’s user, to:
- Facilitate the obtainment of your clients consent by the implementation of checkboxes relating to the consent, where you want to display it;
- Facilitate the management of the implementation of the clients’ request relating to their rights, in particular concerning the right to erasure; and
- Furnish proof of the effective exercise of their right to access and the management of their consent regarding the marketing emailing (newsletter): a journal will allow to count the obtainment and withdrawal of your client’s consent on these points.
Regarding your client, the module will allow them to manage directly, via their account, the access to their personal data and the portability of it.
These features are intended to help our users become compliant.
Using them does not in any event guarantee the merchant sites are compliant with the new requirements imposed by the GDPR.
It is your own responsibility to configure the modules and take all necessary actions to ensure compliance.
As such, you can find an article summarising your obligations under the GDPR to assist you in your process.
These features will be available for versions 1.5, 1.6 and 1.7. Users of the versions 1.5 and 1.6 would need to pay for it. However, it will be free for the 1.7 version users.
We are currently developing them and they will become available sometime in May.
